Six people, including five members of a single family, sustained burn injuries in an alleged acid attack following a monetary dispute in the Kesaria police station area of Motihari district. The incident occurred on Sunday (August 30) in Ward No. 9 of Purani Bazar, Kesaria.

According to information released by the police on Monday (August 31, 2026), a dispute over financial transactions was ongoing between Amit Kumar alias Bittu and Praveen Prakash Singh alias Gunjan Singh. Preliminary investigations indicate that Praveen Prakash Singh alias Gunjan Singh arrived at the residence of jeweler Amit Kumar alias Bittu, where a heated argument ensued between the two parties. During this altercation, an acid-like substance, reportedly kept at Amit Kumar's house for cleaning silver, was used, injuring individuals from both sides. Police are currently investigating the circumstances and perpetrator of the acid's use.

The injured include Amit Kumar alias Bittu, his three children Yash Kumar, Saksham Kumar, and Aarush Kumar, a female family member, and Praveen Kumar Singh alias Gunjan Singh from the other party. All victims have been hospitalized for treatment. Security has been heightened in the area due to prevailing tension following the incident.

Given the gravity of the matter, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed under the directive of the Motihari SP. The Sub-Divisional Police Officer of Chakia and an FSL team inspected the crime scene and collected evidence. The site was also inspected in the presence of a magistrate. Based on Amit Kumar's complaint, a case has been registered at Kesaria police station against four individuals: Gunjan Singh alias Praveen Prakash, Prabhat Prakash, Sudhanshu Ranjan alias Ranjan Singh, and Shravan Kumar. Police stated that investigations are ongoing, and further action will be taken based on evidence and statements from both parties.
