Motihari, July 15, 2026: In anticipation of potential floods in East Champaran district, the District Magistrate (DM) and Superintendent of Police (SP) conducted a detailed inspection of the Gandak river embankment on Wednesday. The inspection aimed to assess pre-flood preparations and security arrangements. Officials meticulously examined the current condition of the embankment and issued necessary directives to the concerned departments.

During the inspection, the DM emphasized identifying weak points along the embankment and ensuring their immediate repair. He instructed engineers from the Water Resources Department to assess the strength and capacity of the embankment and implement robust measures to prevent any potential erosion. The SP also discussed the role of the police in maintaining security during floods and in disaster relief operations.

Officials stated that there is a possibility of increased water levels in the Gandak river during this monsoon season, and all precautionary steps are being taken. Local administration, disaster management teams, and police forces have been put on high alert. Villagers are also being informed about potential flood risks and are being made aware of safe places to relocate.

The DM directed that flood shelters be identified and equipped with all basic facilities such as drinking water, food, and medical aid. Furthermore, instructions were given to ensure the availability of boats and other rescue equipment. This inspection marks a crucial step towards protecting East Champaran district from the potential onslaught of floods.
