A deeply tragic incident has emerged from East Champaran (Motihari) district in Bihar. Five members of the same family have died after drowning in a pond in Ward No. 6 of Babhnauli Panchayat, under the Govindganj police station area. The deceased have been identified as Sushila Devi (wife of Dharmendra Mahto) and her four children: Avinash Kumar (son), Ravi Kumar (son), Amrita Kumari (daughter), and Pammi Kumari (daughter).

According to information received, Sushila Devi had gone to work in the fields with her four children when the incident occurred in a nearby village pond. The entire village is in mourning following this tragedy. However, the exact circumstances leading to the incident are not yet clear. Villagers are reportedly reluctant to speak openly about the matter, but privately, they are expressing suspicions of a domestic dispute behind the entire incident, making the case even more mysterious.

Upon receiving information about the incident, Govindganj police immediately reached the spot. With the help of local villagers, the police retrieved all five bodies from the pond after considerable effort. Police have taken custody of the bodies and sent them for post-mortem examination to Motihari Sadar Hospital. The police are investigating all angles – accident, suicide, or murder – to ascertain the truth. The untimely death of five members of a single family has shocked the entire region.
