Nalanda: Excise Intelligence Bureau Constable Ajit Kumar was allegedly murdered in a love triangle, according to a Nalanda police official who spoke to Dainik Bhaskar on condition of anonymity. The accused, Sub-Inspector Pushpa Kumari, who was previously in a relationship with Ajit, later grew close to Constable Rishu, who was stationed at a juvenile home. Investigations suggest that Rishu shot Ajit using a government rifle snatched from another home guard jawan, acting on Pushpa's orders.

Police sources revealed that on the day of the incident, Constable Rishu was officially on duty at the juvenile home but was present with the excise department team. Ajit Kumar, a resident of Nagarnausa, had a love marriage six years ago. His affair with Pushpa began about three years ago during duty. Pushpa was reportedly unhappy about Ajit being married, leading to frequent disputes. After Ajit's transfer to the Patna Excise Intelligence Bureau, Pushpa and Constable Rishu's proximity increased. Rishu was reportedly in contact with Pushpa since her posting in the Hilsa sub-division.

On the day of the incident, Ajit called Pushpa to inform her about liquor smugglers and asked her to meet him at Kharat Mor. Ajit was pursuing the smugglers in his Scorpio. Pushpa arrived at the scene with Rishu and four home guard jawans. Initially, Pushpa ordered Home Guard Dinanath to fire, but he refused. Rishu then snatched the rifle from Dinanath and fired five rounds, one of which hit Ajit. Ajit was first taken to Pawapuri and later succumbed to his injuries at Patna PMCH.

Accused Sub-Inspector Pushpa Kumari has a controversial past. During her posting in the Hilsa sub-division from July 2023 to February 2026, she faced allegations of illegal extortion and fraudulent raids. In February 2024, a raid in Sharifabad, Islampur police station area, sparked a violent stone-pelting incident after innocent villagers were apprehended in a liquor case. Five police personnel were injured, and a government vehicle was damaged. Her past controversial history is also under scrutiny following this murder case.
