Villagers from Nawada and Sheikhpura districts clashed on Monday near Jilwariya village, under Pakribarawan police station in Nawada, over the distribution of water from the Kaurihari canal. A large number of villagers gathered at the spot as the dispute escalated, creating a tense situation.

Upon receiving information about the escalating conflict, Nawada DM Ravi Prakash directed Pakribarawan Circle Officer Niharika and Station House Officer Inspector Ranjan Chaudhary to the scene. They intervened and successfully diffused the situation by mediating between the two groups of villagers.

It was reported that villagers from Varsha village in Sheikhpura district were attempting to cut the Kaurihari canal to divert water towards their village. Hundreds of villagers from Nawada district, including those from Pinparwa, Jilwariya, and Tanpura, promptly arrived at the location upon learning of the incident. A heated argument ensued between the two sides regarding the equitable distribution of canal water. Villagers from Nawada district presented their case to the officials, stating that cutting the canal near Jilwariya village to divert water towards Varsha village would benefit only one village. They argued that if the canal remained intact, dozens of villages would be able to access its water. The administration has brought the situation under control, and further action is expected to ensure fair water distribution between the two districts.
