A shocking incident has emerged from Nawada district, Bihar, where a woman was allegedly accused of witchcraft and an attempt was made to burn her alive on a funeral pyre. The incident occurred on Monday in a village under the Sirdala police station area, causing widespread alarm. Police intervened promptly, rescuing the woman.

According to reports, a villager named Daso Devi passed away on Sunday. Her last rites were being performed on Monday at the village cremation ground. During the ceremony, some villagers accused another woman of being a witch and attempted to burn her alive along with Daso Devi's pyre. It is believed that a few days prior, there had been a dispute between the deceased, Daso Devi, and the victim. Following the dispute, Daso Devi's health deteriorated, leading to her death two days later. Villagers attributed her death to the victim, accusing her of witchcraft.

Upon receiving information about the incident, a Dial-112 team, including Constable Mahfooz Alam and other police personnel, rushed to the scene. The police safely rescued the woman from the mob and brought her to the police station. Investigations are currently underway, although no formal complaint has been filed by the victim yet. The incident has become a major topic of discussion in the area.

In a separate development in Nawada, a youth has been arrested in Rajouli on charges of sexual exploitation under the pretext of marriage. The arrested individual has been identified as Praveen Kumar, son of Bindeshwari Prasad, a resident of Manpur village under Akbarpur police station. Praveen Kumar was reportedly already married. Acting on court directives, ASI Jaiprakash Chaudhary arrested Praveen based on confidential information. After a medical examination, he was sent to judicial custody on Monday.
