A brother-in-law duo has been arrested by Secretariat Police in Patna for allegedly duping youths by promising them government jobs. The two men posed as government officials and policemen to mislead job aspirants. Their arrest came when they were displaying a fake banner related to appointments in the Child Development Project during a video call from within the premises of the Social Welfare Department.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Ajay Kumar Shukla, a resident of Azampur in Manihari police station area of Motihari, and Raja Kumar, a resident of Shambhuganj in Banka. Ajay claimed to be a section officer in the Health Department, while Raja posed as a police constable. To make their identities believable, they used government employee-like attire and forged documents.

City SP Central Mamta Kalyani stated that three mobile phones, a laptop, two pairs of fake Secretariat police uniforms, two fake identity cards, and two fake certificates were recovered from them. Police are now investigating how many more people are involved in this gang and how many individuals they have defrauded so far.

On Tuesday, Ajay was showing a fake banner related to Child Development Project Officer appointments during a video call from the Social Welfare Department premises. Noticing suspicious activity, a departmental officer questioned him. Ajay identified himself as a section officer of the Health Department and produced a fake ID card. A departmental inquiry revealed his claims were false, after which he was handed over to the Secretariat Police. During interrogation, Ajay provided information about his brother-in-law, Raja Kumar, who was subsequently arrested.

According to police sources, after news of their arrest spread, five individuals who had been defrauded by the duo contacted the police. Some policemen were also among the victims. Police suspect that the two were not operating alone and that other gang members might be involved. Raids are ongoing to identify other members and their possible hideouts.
