The Patna High Court has directed Purnea University administration to release the pending PhD result of a research scholar within 30 days. This directive came after a scholar's result was withheld despite the submission of their thesis and completion of the viva-voce examination. The court specified that the result must be declared within 30 days of receiving the order's copy, provided there are no other legal or administrative impediments.

During the hearing, the High Court emphasized the scope of the Right to Education, stating that timely declaration of results is a crucial component of it. The court clarified that a research scholar's future cannot be left in uncertainty due to the university's administrative delays or indecision.

The petitioner's counsel informed the court that the scholar had submitted their PhD thesis and other necessary documents on September 27, 2024, followed by the completion of their viva-voce on January 18, 2025. Despite all academic procedures being completed, the result was not released.

The court also referred to UGC and higher education institution regulations, which stipulate that the entire process, including evaluation, viva-voce, and final result declaration, should be completed within a maximum of six months from the date of thesis submission.

The High Court has instructed the Registrar and Examination Controller of Purnea University to investigate the entire matter and ensure action is taken in accordance with the rules. Dr. Zamirul Alam, Examination Controller of Purnea University, stated that the university administration has received the directives and will proceed accordingly within the stipulated timeframe.
