The electricity department in Phullidumar block, Banka district, has launched a significant crackdown on electricity theft. Five consumers have had First Information Reports (FIRs) filed against them for alleged power theft. This action aims to curb revenue losses due to illegal electricity consumption and ensure fairness for honest consumers.

Department officials stated that they had been receiving continuous complaints about electricity theft in the Phullidumar area. A special team was formed based on these complaints, conducting raids at various locations. During these raids, five consumers were caught red-handed stealing electricity, either by direct hooking from power lines or by tampering with their meters.

Investigations revealed that these consumers were engaged in large-scale power theft, causing substantial revenue loss to the department. FIRs have been registered against all five consumers at the Phullidumar police station under relevant sections of the Electricity Act. Additionally, a total fine of ₹1.49 lakh has been imposed on them. The department has clarified that this drive will continue, and strict measures will be taken against power thieves in the future. They have urged the public to refrain from electricity theft and pay their bills honestly to ensure uninterrupted power supply for everyone.
