Pirpainti Block Development Officer (BDO) Abhimanyu Kumar of Bhagalpur staged a symbolic protest on Monday by wearing a black armband. This demonstration was in response to the incident in Chhapra where two BDOs were seriously injured during law and order duty. The protest was part of a statewide call by the Bihar Rural Development Service Association, with Kumar participating while carrying out his regular official duties.

Abhimanyu Kumar emphasized that BDOs play a crucial role in delivering various government welfare schemes to the last person. He stressed that ensuring their safety during sensitive law and order duties is the government's responsibility. Calling incidents like the one in Chhapra alarming, he highlighted the urgent need for concrete and effective measures to ensure the security of officials.

The Bihar Rural Development Service Association has put forth several key demands to the state government. These include providing essential safety equipment such as body protectors, helmets, shields, and leg guards at every block office. Additionally, they demand the deployment of at least two trained security personnel with each BDO, free treatment in high-level government hospitals for injured officials during duty, implementation of special insurance and compensation policies, and the creation of clear Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for sensitive duties.

Kumar stated that this symbolic protest would continue until the government takes concrete and positive decisions regarding the safety of BDOs, proper treatment for injured officials, and other demands of the association. He expressed hope that the government would show sensitivity to this serious issue and take effective steps soon.
