अस्पताल सूत्रों के अनुसार, पीरपैंती रेफरल अस्पताल में डॉक्टरों के कुल 9 पद स्वीकृत हैं, लेकिन वर्तमान में केवल 3 डॉक्टर ही अपनी सेवाएं दे रहे हैं। इस गंभीर कमी के कारण, प्रतिदिन ओपीडी में आने वाले सैकड़ों मरीजों को पर्याप्त चिकित्सा सुविधा नहीं मिल पा रही है। खासकर सुबह के समय, मरीजों की भीड़ इतनी बढ़ जाती है कि सामान्य जांच और परामर्श के लिए भी उन्हें दो से तीन घंटे तक इंतजार करना पड़ता है।
मरीजों और उनके परिजनों का कहना है कि डॉक्टरों की कमी के कारण इलाज में देरी होती है, जिससे उनकी परेशानी और बढ़ जाती है। कई बार तो ग्रामीण इलाकों से आए मरीजों को बिना इलाज के ही वापस लौटना पड़ता है क्योंकि डॉक्टर की उपलब्धता नहीं होती। अस्पताल प्रशासन भी इस समस्या से जूझ रहा है और उनका कहना है कि उन्होंने कई बार उच्चाधिकारियों को डॉक्टरों की कमी से अवगत कराया है, लेकिन अभी तक कोई ठोस कदम नहीं उठाया गया है।
