A severe erosion began late Sunday night at the Raghopur main embankment in Kharik block, Naugachhia, Bhagalpur. The erosion, which started around 8 PM, caused more than half of the Water Resources Department's camp office to be washed away into the Ganga River. A significant portion of the embankment also collapsed into the river.

According to local residents, approximately 200 meters of the Zamindari embankment have eroded, leaving only about 25 percent of it intact. Villagers fear that if the erosion is not controlled soon, several areas in Kharik and Bihpur blocks could be submerged. Upon receiving information about the incident, the Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) and Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) arrived at the scene. They, along with officials from the Water Resources Department, initiated rescue and anti-erosion efforts. The administration's concern has heightened due to the Bihar government's Energy Minister's residence being located approximately 500 meters from the erosion site.

Villagers expressed strong anger over the erosion, alleging that the Water Resources Department failed to carry out timely and quality protective works, leading to the current situation. Accusations of negligence were made against the department and its contractors. A large crowd of villagers gathered at the site, obstructing rescue operations. Police resorted to a mild lathi-charge to disperse the crowd and clear the way for relief efforts. Following this, the administration and the Water Resources Department's team intensified efforts to stop the erosion on a war footing. The administration is continuously monitoring the situation and has increased vigilance in the affected area as a precautionary measure.
