Residents of Rajaun block in Banka district are grappling with a severe drinking water crisis due to a malfunctioning motor of the water tank installed under the Chief Minister's Nal-Jal scheme. For several days, the motor has been out of order, completely halting water supply and causing significant distress among the local population.

According to villagers, this issue has persisted for some time, and the situation has now become so critical that people are forced to fetch water from distant areas. The ongoing summer heat has exacerbated the problem, severely impacting daily life. Women and children, in particular, are bearing the brunt of this water scarcity.

Local resident Rajiv Kumar stated that the water supply was smooth for some time after the scheme's inception, but the motor breakdown has created this current predicament. He added that numerous complaints have been lodged with the concerned authorities, but no concrete action has been taken yet. Another resident, Sunita Devi, shared her plight, explaining that she has to walk several kilometers daily to fetch water from wells or handpumps, which is a arduous task.

Villagers are demanding immediate repair or replacement of the motor from the administration. They warn that if the issue is not resolved promptly, they will be compelled to resort to protests. The Nal-Jal scheme aims to provide clean drinking water to every household, but in Rajaun, it is currently failing to achieve its objective. Authorities need to address this serious problem without delay and provide relief to the affected villagers.
