A unique reunion of the 1976 batch of Sub-Inspectors (SIs) recently took place in Patna, bringing together retired police officers from across the country. During the event, a retired Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) voiced his concerns about the significant changes in policing, stating, "Policing has changed a lot these days. Now, we ourselves are afraid to go to the police station." This statement has sparked considerable discussion both within and outside the police department.

Many officers who played crucial roles in maintaining law and order in various parts of Bihar and the country during their service tenure attended this reunion. They reminisced about their old days when the nature of policing was quite different. Another retired officer mentioned that earlier, there was a different kind of relationship between the police and the public, which included both trust and respect. However, over time, this relationship has weakened.

Retired officials emphasized the need for reforms in the current police system. They stressed that the police should be more sensitive and accountable to the public. Specifically, common people should not feel any fear in visiting a police station. This event was not only an opportunity to bring old colleagues together but also provided a platform for discussing the existing challenges and future direction of the police department.

Several former DGP, IG, and SP-level officers were also present at this meeting. All agreed that while it is essential to equip the police force with modern techniques and training, the human approach and the spirit of community policing must also be kept alive. This reunion was not just a social gathering but also a significant reflection on the changing landscape of policing.
