A recent incident involving alleged assault and misbehavior with journalist Abhishek Kumar during news gathering at Saharsa Model Sadar Hospital has brought hospital manager Simpi Kumari under scrutiny. Following the altercation, questions regarding her appointment, educational qualifications, work style, and previous departmental inquiries have surfaced.

Simpi Kumari is reportedly the daughter of JDU leader Pramod Chaudhary from Mirganj-Khagaha in Purnia district. Before her posting in Saharsa, she served as a manager at Purnia Sadar Hospital. In 2017, she faced an inquiry when a family had to transport a deceased woman's body on a motorcycle due to the unavailability of an ambulance at Purnia Sadar Hospital. A three-member inquiry committee criticized her work and alleged negligence, stating that her inaction led to the delay in providing a hearse.

During the 2017 investigation, her educational qualifications were also questioned. The report indicated that she obtained an MBA degree through distance learning from Manav Bharti University, Solan (Himachal Pradesh). The committee noted that this was not a regular course and the degree did not specify 'Hospital Administration.' Additionally, concerns were raised about her two-year internship experience, a prerequisite for the position. The committee concluded that her continued tenure was inappropriate given her alleged lack of prescribed qualifications.

In 2019, JDU leader Tuntun Alam, using the Right to Information (RTI) Act, wrote to the health department demanding Simpi Kumari's removal. Following this complaint, she was transferred to Saharsa. Now, questions are being raised about how she was re-appointed to Saharsa Model Sadar Hospital despite departmental concerns in 2017 and 2019. Her alleged political connections are also a subject of local discussion.

Local intellectuals, social workers, and media personnel have demanded a fair and high-level inquiry from the District Health Committee, Saharsa, and the State Health Department. This inquiry is expected to cover the alleged assault on the journalist, as well as Simpi Kumari's appointment, educational qualifications, and past departmental investigations, with appropriate action to be taken if allegations are proven true.
