Police have arrested one accused in connection with the kidnapping and assault of Narendra Prasad Singh, son of former MLA late Bashishth Narayan Singh, in the Warisnagar police station area of Samastipur district. The arrested accused has been identified as Mohammad Shoaib Azam, a brick kiln owner residing in Satmalpur. Warisnagar police apprehended him on Friday from the District Collectorate premises. Following interrogation, the accused has been sent to judicial custody.

The incident occurred approximately a month and a half ago. On the afternoon of July 29, Narendra Prasad Singh had gone from his residence in Samastipur to Satmalpur. While returning in the evening, near the Satmalpur petrol pump, he met Belal Raja, who arranged for him to return to Samastipur on an acquaintance's bike. It is alleged that near Nagar Basti, six youths on two motorcycles overtook and stopped his bike. Subsequently, Akib and Shakib, sons of Mohammad Shoaib of Satmalpur, snatched Narendra Prasad Singh's mobile phone and forcibly took him to their brick industry premises in Satmalpur.

It is further alleged that Narendra Prasad Singh was assaulted at the brick industry premises, and attempts were made to force him to sign blank stamp papers and plain papers. Meanwhile, upon receiving information about the incident, local Mukhiya's son Belal Raja arrived at the scene and rescued him from the clutches of the accused, taking him to his home. An FIR was lodged at Warisnagar police station the next day based on Narendra Prasad Singh's application. Based on the investigation report by sub-inspector Amar Kumar, the police arrested brick kiln owner Mohammad Shoaib Azam. Warisnagar SHO Sarvesh Kumar Jha stated that the arrest was made based on facts uncovered during the investigation and the inquiry report. The roles of other accused in the case are also being investigated.
