A major accident was narrowly averted in Tarapur, Munger district, when a Scorpio veered off the road and plunged into a river on Wednesday afternoon. Fortunately, all occupants, including the driver, emerged unharmed. Following the incident, local villagers expressed their anger and demanded that railings be installed on the bridge.

The incident occurred on the Kharagpur-Tarapur main road, within the Tarapur police station area. The Scorpio was traveling from Kharagpur towards Tarapur. As the vehicle approached Ataipur village, the driver lost control, and the car fell directly into the river beside the road. The low water level in the river prevented a more severe outcome. Villagers present nearby quickly rushed to the scene and initiated rescue efforts, safely extracting all individuals trapped inside the vehicle.

Eyewitnesses reported that the vehicle was not speeding, but the absence of railings on the bridge was the primary cause of the accident. Locals stated that this bridge has been the site of several accidents in the past, some of which have resulted in fatalities. They criticized the administration and concerned departments for their negligence, which they believe leads to such frequent mishaps.

Residents have urged the administration to immediately install robust railings on the bridge to prevent future incidents. They warned that if the issue is not addressed promptly, they would be forced to block roads and stage protests. This incident once again highlights the lack of road safety measures in rural areas.
