Litchi cultivation in Bihar is proving to be a boon for farmers, particularly the Shahi and China varieties, which have brought about a significant change in their economic status. Several farmers in Muzaffarpur district have reaped substantial profits from litchi cultivation this year, serving as an inspiration for others.

One farmer shared that he cultivated litchi on his one-acre land, investing approximately Rs 50,000, which covered saplings, fertilizers, irrigation, and labor costs. After the harvest, he sold his produce in the market and earned a total of Rs 4 lakh. This represents a significant success, as he achieved a profit of more than eight times his initial investment.

Shahi and China litchi are renowned for their unique sweetness, aroma, and juiciness, leading to high market demand. Bihar's climate and soil are highly favorable for cultivating these varieties. Farmers also receive technical assistance and subsidies from the agriculture and horticulture departments, helping them access quality saplings and adopt modern farming practices.
