Shambhuganj market in Banka district experienced severe waterlogging on Tuesday due to continuous rain. Approximately 400 feet of the main road was submerged under two to two-and-a-half feet of water, disrupting public movement. Rainwater also entered several shops and nearby homes, escalating the problems for traders and local residents.

Local residents Vinay Modi, Indrajeet Kumar, and Pankaj Kumar stated on Tuesday morning at 10:15 am that the lack of proper drainage alongside the road and inadequate rainwater runoff leads to this situation every monsoon. Even light rain turns the road into a pond, while heavy rain further increases the water level. This causes particular difficulty for schoolchildren, the elderly, women, and two-wheeler riders. The hidden potholes in the water also pose a risk of accidents.

According to shopkeepers, dirty water entering their shops damages goods. They often have to keep their shops closed for hours, resulting in financial losses. Market residents reported that they have been demanding the construction of drains for years, but have only received assurances so far. Block Vice President Dinesh Mandal has urged the administration to immediately implement a permanent drainage system and construct proper drains. He warned that if a solution is not found in time, the situation could worsen in the coming days. Local people expressed their anger, noting that administrative officials, public representatives, MLAs, and MPs pass through this very road daily, yet a permanent solution to the problem has not been found. This is increasing public resentment towards elected officials and the administration.
