A tragic incident occurred in Sheikhpura district on Sunday, where a 12-year-old boy drowned in a trench at Surdaspur Hill, falling under the Nagar police station area. The deceased has been identified as Aman Kumar alias Priyanshu, son of Sanjay Yadav, a resident of Kariho village. Eight hours after the incident, Aman's body could not be recovered from the deep water.

According to information, Aman had gone to bathe with four-five friends in the water collected in the Surdaspur hill trench. During bathing, he got trapped in a deep pit and could not get out. His friends immediately informed the villagers and family members. Upon receiving the information, a police team led by Nagar Station House Officer Dharmendra Kumar reached the spot. Efforts were made to retrieve the body with the help of local divers, but without success.

The administration has now called the NDRF team from Patna to recover the teenager's body from the trench. Senior Deputy Collector Saroj Paswan, Sadar Block CO, and several other officials and police officers were present at the incident site. The deceased Aman was a seventh-grade student at a private school in the city. The incident has plunged his family into grief and cast a pall of sorrow over the village.

Nagar SHO Dharmendra Kumar stated that the NDRF team is expected to arrive in Sheikhpura by the next morning. Villagers present at the scene expressed concern over the deadly pits formed due to indiscriminate stone quarrying. They alleged that large pits are left open after stone quarrying, which often lead to such accidents.
