Jaferpur village in Shivhar district, Bihar, is grappling with a severe issue where a damaged road has put thousands of lives at risk. During the desilting of a new river, the main road of the village was completely destroyed. As a result, farmers are forced to cross the river with the help of towels to reach their fields. Despite it being the paddy transplantation season, there is no access to the fields, and the administration has taken no action.

Villagers state that when the road was broken for river desilting, they were assured of prompt repairs, but they have since been abandoned. To reach their fields, people cross the river in groups, holding onto each other with towels, fearing being swept away by the strong current.

Madan Giri, a villager, alleged that a Junior Engineer (JE) from the Bagmati division demanded ₹50,000 for bridge construction, which the villagers collected through contributions. However, neither the road was repaired nor a bridge built. He added that this broken road has snatched livelihoods from many farmers in the village who depend on vegetable farming. Daily essentials and clothes also have to be carried across the river on their heads.

Another villager, Sunil Kumar Giri, mentioned that the JE initially demanded ₹80,000, which was later settled at ₹50,000. Only 10 sacks of material were used for the culvert, raising questions about work quality. He also revealed that a superficial repair was done just one day before Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary's proposed visit, but it washed away as soon as water was released.

According to villagers, this is not an ordinary path but a main road recorded in maps, connecting Jaferpur to Gosaipur. Despite over 20 days, no action has been taken. The local MLA has assured a temporary bamboo bridge, but a permanent solution remains elusive.

Nitesh Kumar Giri, a youth from the village, stated that they are raising their concerns on social media due to the lack of response from local administration and public representatives. Meanwhile, JE Vikas Kumar dismissed the allegations of demanding money as baseless, assuring that a temporary bamboo bridge would be constructed within one to two days.
