The Kosi River is once again unleashing devastation in Supaul district, Bihar. Continuous erosion in the Diara region of Telwa Panchayat, Sadar block, has rendered dozens of families homeless. In the past two weeks, over 35 homes in Naynagar Tola (Ward No. 5) and Ward No. 7 have been swallowed by the raging Kosi. Many families are now forced to live under the open sky, while others have sought refuge with relatives.

The most severe impact of the erosion has been observed in Naynagar Tola, Ward No. 5, where more than 25 houses have disappeared into the river. Approximately 10 homes in Ward No. 7 have also succumbed to the erosion. Affected families report living in fear daily for the past two weeks. After losing their homes, many are now residing in temporary shelters along agricultural fields. They face severe challenges regarding food, children's education, livestock safety, and daily necessities.

Victims, including Manibhushan Yadav, Sumitra Devi, Sitaram Yadav, and Buchi Yadav, along with other villagers, stated that despite continuous erosion, they have not received any substantial relief or rehabilitation assistance. They allege that the administration was informed immediately, but initial aid, tarpaulins, food grains, and essential support were not provided.

On Tuesday, Vidhyabhushan Yadav, son of Telwa Panchayat Mukhiya Sumitra Devi and a social worker, along with Anchal Amin Ravi Kumar, acting under the directives of the Sadar Anchal office, inspected the erosion-affected areas. Anchal Amin Ravi Kumar confirmed that a list of affected families is being prepared, and relief and other facilities will be provided under government provisions once the list is complete. However, social worker Vidhyabhushan Yadav emphasized that mere surveys would not solve the victims' problems; immediate relief and permanent rehabilitation are crucial. Villagers have urged the administration to provide prompt relief materials, alternative housing, financial aid, and permanent rehabilitation.
