The water level of the Kosi River in Supaul district is rising rapidly due to continuous rainfall in Nepal. On Saturday morning at 7 AM, 3,16,795 cusecs of water were discharged from the Kosi Barrage, which included 3,13,595 cusecs of downstream discharge and 3,200 cusecs from WKMC. In the Barah region, 2,23,700 cusecs of water were recorded at 7 AM, maintaining a stable trend.

The rising water level has led to rapid flooding in low-lying areas situated within the Kosi embankment. More than 60 villages in the district have been affected by the floods. In Kishunpur block, approximately eighteen villages including Kishunpur Uttar, Dubiyahi, Maujaha, and those under Naurahwa panchayat of Nauabakhar, have been inundated, with water reaching homes and courtyards.

About a dozen villages in Saraigarh-Bhaptiyahi block, specifically in Laukaha, Dholi, and Banainiya panchayats, are also grappling with floods. Residents are using boats to move towards higher ground and embankments. In Marhauna block, water has spread to around 13 villages, including Sisauni, Ghogharadiya, and Barahra panchayats.

Supaul Sadar block's about 10 villages, including Ghuran, Balwa, Piprakhurd, Basbitti, Gopalpur Sire, and Telwa, as well as more than seven villages in Nirmali block's Belasingarmoti and Dighiya panchayats, are also severely impacted by the floods.

On Friday night at 10 PM, 2,87,890 cusecs of water were being discharged from the Kosi Barrage, which increased to 3,16,795 cusecs by Saturday morning. In response to the flood situation, the district administration has intensified monitoring. Under the instructions of District Magistrate Sawan Kumar, engineers from the Water Resources Department and administrative officials are continuously inspecting the protection embankments and spurs. Currently, the embankments and spurs are reported to be safe. Government-provided boats have been arranged in affected areas for the movement of people. The administration team is continuously monitoring the water level and the condition of the embankments.
