Five devotees were killed and one seriously injured in a horrific road accident in Supaul district, Bihar, on Tuesday night. The incident occurred at Kataiya Goth Chowk in the Pipra police station area, where people were performing bhajan-kirtan (devotional singing) at the Bajrangbali temple during the Jhulan festival.

According to the police, a speeding, uncontrolled car, coming from the Pipra side on the Supaul-Pipra main road (NH-327E), ran over the devotees. After hitting the people, the car continued for about 50 meters before crashing into a shop. The deceased have been identified as Bhuvaneshwari Yadav alias Koili Yadav (60) from Kataiya Ward 11, Tilai Das (65), Rajo Das (50) from Ward 12, Surendra Yadav (45) from Ward 15, and Krishna Mohan Sah (21). All victims were residents of Kataiya Panchayat. The injured individual, Ramchandra Yadav, is in critical condition.

Eyewitnesses stated that after the incident, the car driver attempted to flee but drove the car into a garage a short distance away. Fortunately, no one was present in the garage at the time, preventing another major accident. Following the tragedy, enraged villagers apprehended the car driver along with his wife and children and confined them in a house. When the police arrived, the villagers initially refused to release the driver but eventually relented after persuasion. Police reported that the driver is a resident of Supaul and was returning home with his family.

News of the five deaths sparked widespread anger among the villagers, who subsequently blocked the Supaul-Pipra main road, causing long queues of vehicles. They demanded strict action against the guilty driver and adequate compensation for the victims' families. Upon receiving information, Pipra police, along with Sadar Inspector Sanjay Yadav, Sadar SDM Manohar Kumar Sahu, and Cyber DSP Gaurav Gupta, arrived at the scene. Police have seized the accident vehicle and initiated an investigation, while also working to control the situation and restore traffic flow.
