Stray Dog Terrorizes Teghra: Bites 35 in Two Days, Killed by Villagers
A stray dog terrorized Ward No. 4 of Teghra Nagar Parishad in Begusarai district, biting and injuring approximately 35 people over two days. The escalating menace created a fearful atmosphere in the entire locality. On Friday morning, villagers collectively surrounded the dog and killed it.
The dog's aggression was widespread; it attacked women collecting fodder in fields, children playing outside homes, and even intruded into houses. Neelam Kumari, daughter-in-law of Rajesh Singh from Chakpahar, was cooking in her kitchen around 7 PM on Thursday when the dog entered through an open door and bit her hands and legs. Her husband, Roshan Kumar, who came to her rescue, was also bitten.
Earlier on Thursday, Rekha Devi, wife of Nilgat Mahto, was attacked while collecting fodder in a field. Santosh Kumar's son, playing outside, suffered bites on his hand and thigh. Virendra Kumar also sustained injuries. On Thursday night around 8 PM, Pankaj Kumar and Prashant Kumar were attacked. On Friday morning, a woman picking flowers was also targeted. Her cries alerted villagers, who gathered and eventually cornered and killed the dog.
Victims sought anti-rabies vaccination at Teghra Sub-divisional Hospital but found no vaccines available. Many were forced to purchase medicines from the market for their shots. Dr. Ramkrishna, the in-charge medical officer, stated that anti-rabies vaccine supplies have been low for the past two months, and it is currently unavailable at the hospital. He has informed the Civil Surgeon of Begusarai about the situation.
