The construction of the Thakrah bridge over the Burhi Gandak river in West Champaran, Bihar, has been stalled due to significant delays in land acquisition. This crucial bridge, intended to connect Thakrah and the Thakrah-Bagaha road, promises to benefit millions in the region by improving connectivity and fostering economic growth. The total project cost is estimated at 125 crore rupees, with 50 crore allocated for the bridge structure and 75 crore for the approach roads.

Despite the project being underway for two years, only 10 landowners have submitted their property documents so far. Landowners are reportedly dissatisfied with the compensation offered by the government, deeming it insufficient. Multiple meetings have been held to resolve the land acquisition disputes, but no concrete solution has emerged.

Local residents and elected representatives are urging the administration to expedite the land acquisition process. They highlight the bridge's importance in easing traffic congestion and boosting local economic activities. Currently, residents face a long detour to cross the Burhi Gandak river, leading to wasted time and resources, particularly during the monsoon season when the river swells. The administration has assured landowners that their concerns regarding compensation will be reviewed, but no official announcement has been made, leading to growing frustration among the populace.
