Three people died and two others were seriously injured in two separate road accidents in the Mahua police station area of Vaishali district on Monday night. Among the deceased were two matriculation students who were returning home after attending a Durga Puja fair, casting a pall of gloom over Singhrai village.

In the first incident, which occurred in Ward-16, Paschim Tola of Singhrai village under Mahua police station, Abhishek Kumar alias Bhulla Rai (17), Aman Kumar (17), and Pritam Kumar (16) from Singhrai village were returning home on a motorbike after visiting the Durga Puja fair in Singhara Govindpur on Monday evening. Near Mahua Medical College, a speeding unknown vehicle collided with their bike. Locals rushed them to the hospital, but Abhishek and Aman succumbed to their injuries on the way. Abhishek was the son of Sohan Rai, and Aman was the son of Vinod Rai. Both were matriculation students. Pritam Kumar, son of Alok Rai, a ninth-grade student, was admitted to a private hospital in Mahua and is in critical condition. All three friends were from the same village.

The second incident took place near Bhadwas village on the Mahua-Desri main road. Vinod Rai (56), a resident of Allipur Mukund village, was walking when he was hit by an unknown vehicle, leading to his instantaneous death.

Upon receiving information about both incidents, Station House Officer Arvind Prasad arrived at the scene with police forces. After completing the necessary paperwork, the bodies of the two students were sent to Sadar Hospital Hajipur for post-mortem examination. Police are actively searching for the unknown vehicles involved. The two separate accidents, resulting in three fatalities, have cast a shadow of grief over the entire Mahua region.
