Life comes to a standstill for villagers residing on the border of Valmiki Tiger Reserve (VTR) as night falls. People in these areas are forced to stay awake every night, gripped by an unknown fear. The threat from wild animals, especially tigers and bears, is constant in villages adjacent to VTR, leaving residents in a state of terror. Many families are compelled to spend their nights perched on machans (raised platforms) to protect themselves and their loved ones from potential dangers. This situation is particularly severe in villages located right on the edge of the forest. Villagers report that wild animals frequently approach their homes at night, increasing the risk to life and property. Despite repeated pleas to the administration, there has been no significant improvement in the situation, leading to widespread disappointment among the locals.
