A tragic incident occurred in Ward No. 8 of Matiari village, under Jokihat police station in Araria district, where a two-year-old child drowned in a water-filled pit near his home. The accident took place near a handpump where the child was playing.

According to information, Shabbir's two-year-old son was playing near his house while his mother was busy cooking inside. While playing, the child reached a water-filled pit near the handpump. It is suspected that he slipped, fell into the pit, and drowned.

The family members were occupied with their work and did not immediately realize what had happened. Some time later, when the child's body was seen floating on the water's surface, the family became aware of the unfortunate incident. Villagers quickly pulled the child out of the pit, but it was too late, and he had already passed away. Jokihat Station House Officer Rajiv Kumar Jha stated on Sunday that preparations are being made to send the body for post-mortem examination. The incident has cast a pall of grief over the entire village.
