Man Dies of Electrocution in Aurangabad; Family Alleges Negligence
A 50-year-old man, identified as Birendra Kumar Mehta alias Pintoo, died of electrocution on Sunday morning in Shahpur Mohalla, Ward No. 26, Aurangabad city. His family alleges that negligence during pipeline laying work by BUDCO, under a Government of India scheme, led to the tragic incident.
According to the family, pipeline work was underway near Ramlakhan Singh Yadav College in Shahpur Mohalla. It is alleged that during excavation with a JCB, an overhead power cable snapped and fell. The contractor and workers involved in the pipeline project reportedly failed to inform residents or disconnect the power supply. On Sunday morning, Birendra Kumar Mehta was walking near his house boundary when he came into contact with the broken live wire.
Passersby noticed Birendra lying unconscious and raised an alarm, drawing locals and family members to the scene. However, it was too late, and Birendra had already succumbed to the electric shock. The Nagar Police Station was informed, and officers arrived to take the body into custody. A post-mortem was conducted at the Sadar Hospital, after which the body was handed over to the family for last rites.
Shailendra Kushwaha alias Mallu, the deceased's brother, accused the contractor of gross negligence, stating that his elder brother's life could have been saved if timely information about the broken wire had been provided or if the power supply had been cut. Birendra, a farmer, is survived by his wife Shobha Devi, three daughters, and a son. Several local leaders and social workers visited the family to offer condolences. Nagar Police Station SHO Baban Baitha stated that further action is being taken in the matter.
