'Swachhta Hi Seva' Campaign at Bachhwara Ganga Ghat Faces Scrutiny
Under the 'Swachhta Hi Seva' (Cleanliness is Service) campaign, a cleanliness drive was conducted on Thursday at Narepur Jhamatiya Ganga Ghat in Bachhwara block, Begusarai district. Various officials, including DRDA Director Vivek Kumar and BPRO Vishwanath Kumar, along with public representatives and police personnel, participated in the 'shramdaan' (voluntary labor) to clean the ghat and pledge for a clean society. This special cleanliness campaign, running from September 17 to October 2, aimed to inspire people to maintain cleanliness in their homes, villages, offices, schools, and religious places, emphasizing the link between cleanliness and health.
However, the ground reality of the campaign is being questioned. Panchayat Samiti member Sikandar Kumar alleged that despite millions spent on the 'Swachhta Pakhwada' (Cleanliness Fortnight), the efforts are merely formal. He stated that cleaning only occurs when officials are present, otherwise, garbage piles up. Kumar also highlighted that the salaries of sanitation workers are pending, impacting their work. Congress leader Randhir Yadav dismissed the event as a mere show, arguing that cleaning only Jhamatiya Ganga Ghat would not solve the cleanliness issues of the entire Bachhwara. He urged public representatives to focus on cleaning their respective panchayats. Several village heads, panchayat committee members, and other dignitaries were present at the event.
