In a major operation, the Vigilance Department team in Begusarai arrested GST Assistant Commissioner Prakash Chandra Mohan and Data Entry Operator Santosh Kumar Jha red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹25,000 at the Cell Tax Office. The arrest took place on Tuesday when, upon seeing the vigilance team, the Assistant Commissioner threw the bribe money out of the window. However, the team immediately recovered the notes.

According to the information, Jyoti Kumar, owner of Rozy Garments located in Krishna Market, Vishwanath Nagar, had lodged a complaint with the Vigilance Department. Jyoti Kumar was regularly depositing GST for his clothing store, but he was sent a notice for an outstanding GST amount of ₹3.84 lakh, signed by Assistant Tax Commissioner Prakash Chandra Mohan. A bribe of ₹50,000 was initially demanded to settle this matter, which was later reduced to ₹25,000.

Jyoti Kumar had filed a complaint with the Patna office of the Vigilance Investigation Bureau on September 24. After verifying the complaint, a named FIR was registered against Assistant Tax Commissioner Prakash Chandra Mohan and Data Operator Santosh Kumar Jha at the Vigilance Police Station on October 5. On Tuesday, a special team was formed, and Jyoti Kumar was sent with the ₹25,000 bribe. As soon as the data entry operator accepted the bribe amount on the instructions of the Assistant Tax Commissioner, the team arrested them red-handed. After the arrest, both accused were taken into custody and brought to the Circuit House, where they are being interrogated.
