Begusarai witnessed significant unrest and vandalism during a student protest on Thursday, July 23. Rioters, mixed within a crowd of hundreds of students who had marched from GD College, pelted stones at police teams near the Collectorate, Canteen Chowk, and Traffic Chowk. They damaged government vehicles and assaulted media personnel. Some passersby and media persons covering the event also sustained injuries.

Upon receiving information about the disturbance, SP Manish personally arrived at the scene and brought the situation under control. Police swiftly took four suspects into custody for questioning: Mohd. Sanaullah, Abhishek Kumar, Prashant Kumar, and Mohd. Shahnawaz. Interrogations are underway to identify other rioters.

SP Manish stated that approximately 600 to 800 students marched from GD College Begusarai, raising slogans and heading towards the Collectorate. Due to prior intelligence about the student protest, a large contingent of police forces and an anti-riot squad, led by Sadar-1 DSP, were already stationed near the Collectorate. As the student group reached the Collectorate, some disruptive elements hidden within the guise of the protest began to instigate violence, attacking police personnel with sticks, lathis, bricks, and stones.

Police have released photographs of 30 rioters, identified through social media and CCTV footage, and appealed to the public for help in identifying them. Contact numbers for Nagar Thana, Police Control Room, and the Social Media Cell have also been issued for providing information. A special team from Nagar Thana Police, led by Sadar-1 DSP Anand Kumar Pandey, has been formed and is continuously raiding locations to identify other rioters based on videos and photographs. Police have affirmed that no one involved in the violence under the pretext of student protest will be spared.
