Several cities in Bihar have been inundated after just two hours of heavy rainfall, exposing the glaring inadequacies in urban drainage systems and the local administration's monsoon preparedness. Despite prolonged discussions and meetings regarding drain desilting (nala udahi), the cities quickly transformed into waterlogged basins, severely disrupting daily life.

Shortly after the rain began, major roads and low-lying areas became submerged under knee-deep water. Commuters and pedestrians faced immense difficulties, with many vehicles breaking down in the water, exacerbating traffic congestion. Homes and shops reported significant damage due to water intrusion, leading to substantial financial losses. Residents expressed frustration, stating that every year, promises are made about improving drainage before the monsoon, but the ground reality remains grim.

There is widespread anger among local residents towards the municipal corporation. They allege that drain cleaning is merely a paper exercise, with drains actually remaining clogged with waste and silt. This negligence is cited as the primary reason for the city's rapid inundation with even moderate rainfall. The administration appears to lack a concrete plan to address this recurring issue. Furthermore, the stagnant, dirty water in many parts of the city has raised concerns about the spread of waterborne diseases, as it provides breeding grounds for mosquitoes and other pathogens.
