The Bihar government has decided to launch a heli-tourism service, allowing tourists to enjoy aerial views of the state's prominent religious and tourist destinations. In the initial phase, Rajgir, Valmikinagar, and the Maa Mundeshwari Temple in Kaimur will be connected via helicopter service.

The state cabinet approved the plan on Wednesday, under which the government will lease a helicopter at a monthly rent of Rs 60 lakh. A total of Rs 3.30 crore has been sanctioned for this purpose. The first phase of the project is slated to run until January 15, 2027.

The heli-tourism service will operate every Saturday and Sunday. Tourists will be able to witness the dense forests of Valmikinagar, the ancient Maa Mundeshwari Temple in Kaimur, and the historic city of Rajgir in Nalanda from the air. The Civil Aviation Department will manage the scheme, with a comprehensive flight plan designed to boost weekend tourism. The government believes that aerial tourism will give a new identity to Bihar's tourism sector and increase the number of domestic and international visitors.

According to the Civil Aviation Department, operations will commence as soon as the helicopter's availability is confirmed. In Patna, a helicopter joy ride service has already been operational since July 18, offering a 10-minute aerial tour for Rs 2,100 per person. This ride provides views of the Ganga River, JP Ganga Path, and Takht Sri Harimandir Sahib, among other key city landmarks.

The government will monitor the scheme for the first six months, assessing tourist numbers and feedback. If successful, other major tourist destinations in Bihar will also be included in the heli-tourism service in the future.
