Patna: Two promising taekwondo players from Gopalganj district, Bihar, Riya Singh and Bhavani Singh, have been selected to represent India at the World Taekwondo Championship in South Korea. Riya Singh, from Rampur in the Baikunthpur assembly constituency, and Bhavani Singh, from Ratansarai in the Barauli assembly constituency, will participate in the championship held from September 16 to 21 in Chuncheon, South Korea.

Both players will compete in the Taekwondo Freestyle Poomsae event. Their consistent excellent performance at the national level earned them a spot in the Indian team, providing them with a significant opportunity to prove their mettle on a global stage.

Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary announced on Sunday a financial aid of ₹2 lakh each to Riya Singh and Bhavani Singh to cover their travel and other essential expenses. This timely assistance comes as both players faced the challenge of arranging funds for their participation in the world championship. The Chief Minister's announcement will facilitate their journey to South Korea for the competition.

Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwari played a crucial role in securing this financial support. He brought the players' needs and the necessity of financial aid for their international participation to the Chief Minister's attention, leading to the announcement of the assistance package.

According to the Education Minister, Riya Singh and Bhavani Singh have been consistently performing well in Taekwondo Freestyle Poomsae championships since 2023. They have achieved numerous accolades, including gold medals in national-level competitions, which led to their selection for the Indian team. Minister Tiwari expressed confidence that both players will deliver outstanding performances on the world stage, bringing pride to both the country and Bihar.
