Significant changes have been implemented in the admission process for undergraduate courses across Bihar universities. Facilities such as freedom fighter, sports, NCC, NSS, and ward quotas have been abolished in admissions being conducted through the Samarth portal in Magadh University and other state universities. This new system has caused considerable discontent among students and university staff.

Previously, dependents of freedom fighters, sportspersons, NCC and NSS volunteers, and wards of university employees benefited from special quotas in undergraduate admissions. Now, admissions are being done online through the Samarth portal based on merit lists, without provisions for these quotas. This has led to uncertainty regarding the admissions of affected students.

This new admission process has been implemented in all universities across the state following directives from Raj Bhavan, Patna. Student JDU President Uttam Kushwaha criticized the move, stating that the abolition of the quota system adversely affects students' interests. He demanded that the university administration designate seats for these quotas and release a roster.

Dr. Binod Kumar Mangalam, Registrar of Magadh University, stated that admissions are currently being conducted through the Samarth portal in accordance with government guidelines. He clarified that the portal adheres strictly to the rules set by the government. However, the Registrar also mentioned that the university administration will write to the government regarding this issue, requesting the reintroduction of the quota system for undergraduate admissions. He confirmed that quota rules are still in effect for postgraduate (PG) courses but have been removed for undergraduate and vocational programs. The university administration will also raise this matter with Raj Bhavan, keeping student interests in mind, to facilitate a decision on restoring the previous system.
