In a significant crackdown against illegal liquor trafficking, police in Buxar district have seized a large consignment of foreign liquor worth approximately Rs 40 lakh. The liquor was being smuggled cleverly, hidden beneath carrier goods in a truck. The truck driver has been arrested in connection with the seizure, and a case has been registered against him under relevant sections, with further investigation underway.

The police received a tip-off about a large consignment of liquor being brought into Bihar from a neighboring state. Acting swiftly on the intelligence, police launched an intensive checking drive at the Buxar district border. During the operation, a suspicious truck was intercepted. Upon searching the truck, bottles of foreign liquor were found hidden beneath other goods. The total value of the seized liquor is estimated to be around Rs 40 lakh in the international market.

Interrogation of the arrested driver is ongoing to identify the masterminds and other individuals involved in this network. Police suspect this to be the work of a major inter-state liquor trafficking gang. Since the implementation of prohibition in Bihar, the illegal liquor trade has flourished, with smugglers adopting new methods. However, the police and excise department are continuously working to curb such activities. This operation has created a stir among liquor smugglers and is a crucial step towards effectively enforcing prohibition in Bihar.
