New Rail Network for Buxar-Chausa Thermal Power Plant, 6-Line Station at Pawani-Kamarpur
Indian Railways will construct a new rail network to facilitate coal supply to the Chausa Thermal Power Plant in Buxar district. This project, estimated at around 1000 crore rupees, will include a six-line station at Pawani-Kamarpur, located between Buxar and Chausa. The new network aims to streamline the movement of coal-laden freight trains and alleviate congestion on the Buxar-DDU railway section, benefiting passenger train operations.
A key feature of the project is the construction of a dedicated Rail Over Rail (ROR) flyover for coal freight trains. This flyover will provide a separate route for freight trains, allowing them to directly transport coal to the Chausa Thermal Power Plant, thereby reducing pressure on the main railway line and ensuring smoother passenger train services.
Currently, Pawani-Kamarpur hosts an Intermediate Block Post (IBP), which will be upgraded into a full crossing station. The revamped station will feature six railway lines, including Up and Down main lines, a common loop line, a Down loop line, and a technical siding.
For passenger convenience, the new station will have three platforms, each measuring 590 to 600 meters in length. Additionally, a 40-meter-long and eight-meter-wide station building, along with two foot overbridges, will be constructed. The project also involves extending the Up platform at Chausa station by approximately 300 meters. Plans include building an underpass near railway gate number 74, and proposing either overbridges or underpasses at gates 76 and 77. More than a dozen old bridges will be strengthened and widened to accommodate the new railway lines.
The engineering plans for the project have received technical and administrative approval from Danapur Division and SJVN Thermal Private Limited (STPL), which will bear the entire cost and land acquisition expenses. Saraswati Chandra, Chief Public Relations Officer of East Central Railway, stated that the full crossing station at Pawani-Kamarpur could potentially facilitate stops for passenger, EMU, and MEMU trains in the future, with the final decision resting with railway authorities. This initiative is expected to enhance coal delivery to the Chausa Thermal Power Plant and boost industrial activities in the region.
