A shocking incident of alleged police brutality has emerged from Ballia district, Bihar, where a Dalit youth reportedly died after being beaten by police. The incident has sparked widespread outrage among locals. The deceased has been identified as 30-year-old Jitendra Ram. His family alleges that police came to apprehend Jitendra's son but mistakenly took Jitendra, subjected him to a brutal beating, which led to his death.

According to reports, the incident occurred in a village under the Ballia police station area. Jitendra's family states that police picked him up from his home and took him to a nearby orchard where he was severely beaten. After the assault, he was left there. When family members went looking for Jitendra, they found him in critical condition in the orchard. He was immediately rushed to the hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries on the way.

Following the incident, locals protested vehemently, raising slogans against the police administration. Given the gravity of the matter, the Superintendent of Police has ordered immediate action. Based on the complaint filed by the deceased's family, a First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against a total of six police personnel, including a Sub-Inspector. These officers have been booked under charges of murder and other relevant sections.

The police department has taken this matter seriously and assured strict action against the guilty officers. This incident once again highlights the issues of custodial deaths and human rights violations. It remains to be seen how soon justice is served to the victim's family and what punishment is meted out to the responsible police personnel.
