Laborers staged a strong protest at the Dhanarua Block Headquarters on Tuesday, demanding the fulfillment of various demands. A large number of workers gathered, raising their voices against the administration and submitting a detailed memorandum outlining their key concerns.

Among the primary demands of the laborers were the payment of pending wages under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), ensuring fair wage rates for work, and the provision of safety and health facilities at workplaces. The workers stated that they have not received payment for work done under MGNREGA for a long time, leading to financial hardship for their families. Furthermore, they alleged that they are being paid less than the prescribed minimum wage, and essential safety equipment and first-aid facilities are absent at their work sites.

During the protest, the laborers chanted slogans against the government and local administration. They warned that if their demands are not addressed promptly, they would be compelled to launch larger movements in the future. Representatives of the laborers mentioned that they had approached officials multiple times regarding their issues, but their grievances went unheard, forcing them to take this step.

Local authorities accepted the memorandum from the protesting laborers and assured them that their demands would be seriously considered, and necessary action would be directed to the concerned departments. The officials stated that the administration is sensitive to the problems of the laborers and is committed to protecting their interests. However, the laborers made it clear that they would not be satisfied with mere assurances and would await concrete action. This protest once again highlighted the plight of laborers in rural areas and the infringement of their rights.
