An elderly man, Shyamlal Thakur (70), tragically drowned in a pond in Dihbhujaina village, Chainpur police station area, on Sunday. According to family members, Shyamlal Thakur had left his home on Sunday morning to inspect his paddy crop in the fields located north of the village.

It is reported that he went near the pond for defecation, and suddenly his foot slipped into deep water, leading to his drowning. Local residents informed the Chainpur police station, who promptly arrived at the scene. The police recovered the body from the pond and, after completing the inquest (panchnama), sent it to Sadar Hospital, Bhabhua, for post-mortem examination. Family members reached the post-mortem house around 8 AM on Sunday. After the post-mortem procedure, the body was handed over to the family, plunging them into deep mourning.

Panchu Sharma, the eldest son of the deceased, stated that his father had gone to check the paddy crop and had no idea such a tragic accident would befall him while inspecting the fields. He added that the entire family is in shock after hearing the news of his father's death.
