A farmer, Ram Pravesh alias Pawan Yadav, was fatally struck by a speeding car while walking on the roadside in Gayaji on Thursday. The incident occurred near Raja Bigha in the Sherghati police station area, on the Sherghati-Cherki via Gayaji main road. The car driver fled the scene immediately after the accident, which was captured on CCTV.

Ram Pravesh, a resident of Nimhara Tola under Chitav Panchayat, was reportedly on his way to monitor his workplace, walking on the left side of the road, when the car hit him from behind. Villagers rushed to provide aid and attempted to take him to the hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries en route.

Following the news of the farmer's death, enraged villagers blocked the Sherghati-Cherki via Gayaji main road for approximately two hours. They demanded adequate compensation for the victim's family and the immediate arrest of the fleeing driver. The blockade caused significant traffic congestion.

Upon receiving information, Sherghati Circle Officer Usha Kumari, Block Development Officer Vinod Kumar, Police Inspector Neyaz Ahmed, and Station House Officer Pramod Kumar, along with police forces, arrived at the scene. They engaged in discussions with the villagers and the victim's family, assuring them of action. Following these assurances, the villagers lifted the blockade. Police have taken the body for post-mortem examination and initiated further proceedings. Authorities are currently reviewing nearby CCTV footage to identify the vehicle and its driver.
