Heavy rainfall in Nepal has significantly increased the risk of floods in Bihar's bordering regions. Specifically, the water level of the Gandak River in Valmiki Nagar is rising rapidly, and the river is currently in full spate. The intense downpour in Nepal's Terai and hilly areas has led to an extreme increase in water pressure at the Gandak Barrage.

According to data released by the Water Resources Department, the water discharge from the Gandak Barrage reached a record level around 4 AM. During this period, approximately 5,43,000 cusecs of water were released from the barrage, breaking several previous records. The rising water level of the river poses a flood threat to low-lying areas in West Champaran, Gopalganj, and Saran districts. The administration has issued an alert in these regions, urging residents to move to safer places. Embankment monitoring has been increased, and emergency services are on standby.
