Gopalganj's model Sadar Hospital, constructed at an approximate cost of 37 crore rupees with the aim of providing modern healthcare facilities, has become a source of distress for patients and their families due to its dilapidated condition. More than two years after its inauguration, the ground reality of the hospital is a far cry from official claims.

Filth, waterlogging, and a dysfunctional sewer system within the hospital premises have become major problems. Due to the lack of proper drainage, dirty water from toilets and drains flows openly. The situation is worst right next to the emergency ward, where accumulated dirty water creates a foul odor, causing significant inconvenience to patients, their relatives, healthcare workers, and security personnel alike.

The dilapidated sewer system allows water from drains and toilets to spread across the premises due to inadequate drainage, increasing the risk of infection. Patients are forced to spend their time amidst dirt and stench instead of a healthy environment.

During the hospital's construction, a new emergency gate was proposed, but it remains incomplete even after more than two years. The area intended for a patient entrance is now in a deplorable state due to dirty water and waste.

The current condition of this model hospital, built at a cost of crores of rupees, raises serious questions about its construction and maintenance. The prolonged persistence of basic facility issues like drainage and sewerage also questions the functioning of responsible departments. It is pertinent to ask when the basic facilities in this multi-crore hospital will improve and when officials will find a permanent solution to this problem.
