Gopalganj district is set to receive a significant upgrade in its urban lighting infrastructure with the installation of over 4600 new street lights. This ambitious project, costing ₹4.22 crore, aims to enhance illumination in urban areas, focusing primarily on existing electric poles and strategically selected locations that currently lack adequate lighting.

Approved by the Urban Development and Housing Department, the initiative will see modern LED street lights installed across various wards and main roads of Gopalganj city. This development is expected to improve nighttime safety for commuters and pedestrians, while also enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the city. Furthermore, better lighting is anticipated to aid in crime prevention by reducing dark spots conducive to illicit activities.

Officials have identified key areas for the initial phase of installation, including main markets, public spaces, areas surrounding schools and colleges, and densely populated neighborhoods. The tender process for the project is expected to commence shortly, with efforts underway to complete the installation within the stipulated timeframe. This project addresses a long-standing demand from local residents for improved lighting and is seen as a crucial step towards making Gopalganj a safer, cleaner, and more modern city.
