In Gopalganj district's Baikunthpur block, the Zamindari Dam located between Shitalpur and Pakaha breached on Wednesday morning due to the surging waters of the Gandak River. Following the breach, the Gandak's water rapidly spread into lower-lying areas, causing panic in Shitalpur and several surrounding villages.

This incident has heightened the risk of flooding in villages including Shitalpur, Faizullahpur, Khomharipur, Salempur, Narwar, Baharampur, parts of Gamhari, Baikunthpur, Chiutaha Fatehpur Basghat, Bandhauli, and Banaura. Villagers are increasingly concerned as water quickly inundates their homes and agricultural lands.

The most pressing concern now is the Saran embankment near Munja Matiyari, where water pressure has significantly increased. Should the Saran embankment be compromised, there is a severe risk of floodwaters reaching not only Baikunthpur but also Panapur, Mashrakh, Taraiya, and Marhaura in Saran district.

Upon receiving news of the dam breach, a team from the Water Resources Department immediately arrived at the scene to assess the situation. Monitoring has been intensified at the Saran embankment in Munja Matiyari due to the rising pressure. The administration has urged villagers to remain vigilant and move to safer locations from low-lying areas. Baikunthpur constituency is also represented by Bihar's Education Minister, Mithilesh Tiwari, and administrative and departmental activity has significantly increased following the incident.
