Teachers from Hathua's Gopeshwar College, alongside other teacher organizations from Saran, Siwan, and Gopalganj, staged a strong protest on Monday at the Jai Prakash University headquarters in Chhapra. The demonstration was held against the proposed Bihar University Act 2026.

Dr. Vivekananda Tiwari of Gopeshwar College emphasized that universities are independent centers for knowledge, research, and democratic discourse. He stated that any administrative control over their autonomy would be detrimental to the quality of higher education. Dr. Tiwari clarified that teachers are not opposing the system but are fighting for the establishment of robust higher education. He urged the government to engage in extensive dialogue with teachers, academics, and students before implementing the law.

Other faculty members from Gopeshwar College, including Dr. Sanjay Suman, also participated, reiterating their commitment to protecting university autonomy. Members of the Legislative Council, Prof. Virendra Narayan Yadav, Prof. Lal Babu Yadav, and Prof. Dinesh Kushwaha, affirmed that the movement is not against any individual but in the broader interest of higher education. Teachers collectively demanded that a decision on the act should only be made after thorough discussions with all stakeholders.

The event was coordinated by Dr. Dharmendra Singh and Dr. Dinesh Pal. At the conclusion of the protest, teachers decided to form a joint front to intensify their agitation. They warned that if the government fails to address their concerns, the struggle would escalate further.
