In Hilsa, Nalanda district, the Association of Bihar's commercial drivers honored Hilsa Station House Officer (SHO) Chandrabhanu. The felicitation, led by Nalanda District President Rakesh Kumar, took place on Sunday, with numerous drivers in attendance. District President Rakesh Kumar urged the SHO to ensure justice for drivers and appealed to the police to cease the exploitation and mistreatment of drivers.

The drivers highlighted their grievances, stating that in road accidents, large vehicles are often impounded while smaller ones are let go. Furthermore, drivers reported facing misconduct. They recalled that the Association of Bihar's drivers had staged protests across various districts on March 9, presenting a 15-point charter of demands to the District Magistrate for the Bihar government.

Drivers emphasized their crucial role in the state's transportation system, yet lamented the lack of concrete provisions for their social security and welfare. They noted that the government has not yet acted on their demands. The drivers announced their intention to meet the Chief Minister and DGP two days after the Chhath festival in November to reiterate their 15-point demands. They called upon truck, bus, taxi, and other commercial vehicle drivers in Hilsa to unite for this cause.

They also pointed out that road accidents frequently result in driver fatalities, leaving their families without adequate support. They urged the government to seriously consider their issues, advocating for the creation of a Driver Welfare Fund and the inclusion of driver deaths in road accidents under the disaster category, ensuring immediate financial aid to affected families.
