A community sanitation complex constructed at a cost of approximately seven lakh rupees under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) and Lohia Swachh Bihar Abhiyan in the Chakai block headquarters premises in Jamui district has fallen into disrepair due to a lack of maintenance. The ground reality here contradicts claims of proper utilization of government funds and cleanliness.

The facility was formally inaugurated during the Shravani Mela by local MLA Savitri Devi and Block Chief Urmila Devi to provide convenience to the general public and Kanwariyas. Grand promises of improved civic amenities were made at the time, but the complex deteriorated completely shortly after its inauguration.

Currently, the premises are littered with garbage and dry leaves. Due to irregular cleaning, the toilet seats are too dirty to be used. Washbasin pipes are broken, urinals are damaged, and water supply has completely stopped. The locked doors cause significant inconvenience to villagers, especially women, who visit the block office for various tasks. Despite millions spent, people are unable to benefit from this basic facility.

Block Sanitation Supervisor Vinay Kumar acknowledged the shortcomings in the system, stating that accumulated leaves from trees and inconsistent cleaning led to the mess. He informed that an order has been issued for the permanent deputation of a staff member to streamline the system. He assured that the entire complex would soon be cleaned and repaired for public use.
